Multichannel Pipettes

For laboratories that use well plates for their testing procedures, and need multi-pipetting capability, a multichannel pipette is needed.  Multi-channel pipettes have multiple tips to inoculate many wells at once, and come in a variety of volumes and number.  The pipetter itself is a one-hand operated device that can come in an adjustable volume aspiration control, or be set to a static measurement.

Pipette tips can be applied all at once using a rack specifically designed to hold the tips.  This is usually done at the manufacturers, as the tips must be free of debris or dust.  A one-handed operation for installing the tips makes for easier movement during the pipetting run.  The tips can come in a few sizes for the volumes needing delivery, such as 0.1uL, for micropipetting.

Multi-channel pipette tips can be manufactured as color-coded for ease of choosing sizes and volumes.  This added convenience lends speed to the laboratory procedure they are used.  The tips are usually polyethylene plastic and are disposable.  Static-free manufacturing guarantees accurate aspiration and delivery.

The multi-channel pipetter can be statically set for volumes of 20uL - 200uL, or have an adjustable variable volume control.  This is excellent for multiple use pipetting.  A reservoir custom made for the multi-channel pipette adds ease of use by eliminating the need for multiple trays for reagents.  Reservoirs can be labeled according to whatever they hold.

Pipettes that are multi-channel can be manufactured in eight to twelve channels, and can be used for any type of well plate inoculation.  Multi-channel pipetting is also used for Western BLOT testing, inoculating gel baths for DNA detection.  This is important for many investigations into human gene and chromosomal matching, and forensics.

Microbiologists also use multi-channel pipettes for their MIC deductions.  Dispensing multiple inoculations of the organism in question in the well plates at high rate increases the speed of results.  Biochemicals can also be delivered this way at a mass scale, testing multiple organisms on the same plate.
